My Source of Strength in the Transition to #MomLife

My transition into motherhood has been one I didn't expect. It's been sanctifying in ways that I haven't wanted. Call me naive but I wasn’t prepared for how exhausting it is to be a mother. From the long, sleepless nights (EJ still doesn’t sleep through the night) to very little breaks during the day, motherhood is a whole different beast of life. I find that now, more than ever, I need the strength of the Lord to get me through the day AND night. Everything is new and the moment I think I’ve got my little guy figured out he goes through a growth spurt, begins teething, refuses to eat something he used to like, is learning a new skill —you get the idea. Babies grow like crazy! Nothing is predictable, emotions are all over the place, but I serve a God who is faithful! He never changes and his promises are sure.

So in the moments where I feel out of control or caught off guard, when I feel exhausted and just want a break, I look to the Lord (in prayer and through scripture) and what he’s promised me.

He’s promised me rest in him—“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.

He’s promised me wisdom—“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding...” Proverbs 2:6.
In fact His word is all I need during this season and beyond—“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence...” 2 Peter 1:3

Are you a new mom? Where do you find your strength during this season of transition?
